Spoken Words

I swear I haven't forgotten about this.  And I have been writing. Well, more editing some older stuff than producing new.  But it's all part of the process.

Anyway, here's some of what I've been listening to lately:

She's speaking to her future daughter.  I showed this to my mum, and when I got home that evening, she met me at the door with my garden shoes & a big bar of dark chocolate.
This is how I already see my children, whatever their sex.

This man is amazingly funny, and yet makes sure to always make a point.  He uses some objectionable language at times (not this one), but I still love his work.

Another from Taylor Mali.  He's that good.  And he's a teacher, talking about teacher-stuff.  Bonus points, in my book. I snap out bits of this poem whenever I get derided for wanting to be "just a teacher."

I don't normally laugh at people who are hurt by love and angry about it; I relate too well to laugh.  But this guy?  This is one of the most heart wrenching, honest, post-breakup poems I've ever sat through--and he made me laugh, right in the middle of it.  I am a list-er by nature, and I hope my lists can be this good.
Questionable language on this one.

I love this love poem.  I could love this woman deeply.  And even though I haaaaate needles, I think her tattoos are interesting.

As a teacher, and a big sister, and an avid reader of fairy tales, I very nearly cried the first time I listened to this:
Also great from this guy:
  • "Man Up"  (I did cry at this one. A little.)
  • "Everything"
  • "Distinctly Beautiful" (Cried here, too. A little.)

There have been a lot more over the last few days, but I think this is enough for now.  And, just as a warning, my next post will probably be the text of my newest poem.  Stay tuned.
